MISSION
Upward Bound is an educational program designed to develop the skills and motivation necessary for students' success in education beyond high school.

ACADEMIC YEAR
Personalized tutoring helps each student meet their academic goals and  learning needs.
Students attend weekly meetings for academic assistance and tutoring. Academic assistance includes activities in problem solving, goal setting, reading, writing, mathematics as presented on standardized tests and much more. They also participate in one Saturday enrichment activity a month; these activities help students develop knowledge that prepares them for college such as:
  • college entrance requirements and financial aid information
  • study skills and test taking tips
  • financial, time and stress management
  • Students are also mentored on a weekly basis by volunteer community members and college students, participate in job shadow opportunities, and public service projects.

SUMMER ACADEMY
During the summer, students attend a six-week summer academy that simulates the college experience. The residential experiences prepare students for a successful transition to college. They reside in Montana Tech's residence halls and attend English, math, foreign language, and laboratory science courses. Upon completion they earn one high school credit.
Evening activities include student government, public service, outdoor recreation and electives such as yoga, drumming, fly tying and fishing.
The academy weekends are used to complete field-based courses, and make college visits throughout Montana.
